Current and two-time interim UFC lightweight titleholder Justin Gaethje plans to march forward and dismantle reigning 155-pound champ Ilia Topuria, the same way he dogwalked Paddy Pimblett earlier this year at UFC 324.
“The Highlight” has no intention of staying outside the Georgian-Spaniard’s firing range on June 14 and plans to test himself by trading in the pocket with Topuria, controlling the pace, and moving forward.

While many fight fans and analysts expected Justin Gaethje to rely heavily on leg kicks to slow down Ilia Topuria’s movement and avoid exchanges at close range, “The Highlight” appears to have a very different game plan in mind for this title unification bout.
During a recent interview with Jon Anik, Gaethje explained why he will move forward in his fight against “El Matador” on June 14 at the White House. He said:
“They [Ilia Topuria’s past opponents who got knocked out] got compromised. They got put on the back foot; they got put on their heels on a second shot when he was in the middle of a five-punch combination. That is something that I cannot do. I will move forward in this fight… If that puts me into more dangerous positions, then I have to do that still. And this is how I will fight this fight.”
