Justin Gaethje’s head coach, Trevor Wittman, is preparing “The Highlight” for every possible challenge he could face on June 14 when he meets Ilia Topuria on the South Lawn of the White House.
Justin Gaethje’s Grueling Preparation before June 14 bout: “We’re preparing for the unexpected”
Gaethje’s team understands this could be his final opportunity to capture an undisputed UFC title, so they are leaving nothing to chance.
According to Wittman, preparations include adapting to potentially extreme heat and other outdoor factors that could impact performance. In a recent YouTube video on Gaethje’s channel, the founder of ONX Sports added:
“We’re also involving sauna in between the workouts to deal with the heat. Washington, D.C., is super humid. We’re gonna be dealing with bugs, so we’re preparing for the unexpected. Justin Gaethje is in shape.”

As Joe Rogan previously pointed out, unexpected issues such as insects and extreme weather conditions could become factors during an open-air event. Rogan has argued that championship fights should not take place in an uncontrolled environment and suggested the UFC build a climate-controlled arena for the White House card, but the promotion has no plans to do so.
UFC CEO Dana White has also expressed a preference for indoor events always, but the White House card is still expected to take place on the South Lawn regardless of rain, heat, or other weather conditions. The only scenario likely to temporarily halt the event would be lightning in the area.
With less than 2 weeks left for the event, construction has already begun on the White House lawn.
