Former UFC double champion Conor McGregor has confirmed to Ariel Helwani that he has just 2 fights remaining on his current contract, and the promotion has not yet offered him another deal.
The Irishman also said the UFC brass did not try to extend his contract. Yet, McGregor confesses he is “happy” with how things have played out so far.
After a five-year hiatus due to a catastrophic leg injury, “The Notorious” is set to return next month at UFC 329, where he will run it back with Max Holloway. The Dubliner is training, living, sleeping, and eating in the gym and doing all it takes to return with a bang and snap his losing skid.

Conor McGregor will become a free agent soon
Following the UFC’s recent seven-year, $7.7 billion deal with Paramount, there had been speculation about whether Conor McGregor would receive a lucrative fresh contract. However, during an interview with Ariel Helwani earlier today, he clarified that he has only two fights left on his current deal, and he has not signed an extension so far.
“The Notorious” also revealed that, after UFC 329, the promotion would like him to compete again in April 2027.
During the same interview, the Dubliner stated that if he defeats Holloway and the UFC offers him a contract extension, he would be happy to sign it, as he believes “there is a lot more,” and hopes “it’s with the UFC.”

If McGregor gets past Holloway, he already has 2 potential future opponents in mind: Islam Makhachev and Justin Gaethje.
“The Highlight” most recently captured the undisputed lightweight title after dismantling Ilia Topuria this past weekend at UFC Freedom 250. Meanwhile, Makhachev, the current welterweight champion and P4P king, is rumored to defend his title against Ian Machado Garry in August.
At the age of 37, McGregor is returning with bigger plans. The Irishman wants to reclaim the lightweight title, and, if that opportunity does not materialize, he is game to pursue three-division champion status by challenging Makhachev, the protégé of his archrival, Khabib Nurmagomedov. During the same sitdown with Ariel Helwani, he said:
“Gaethje, when he’s on he’s good, he’s okay. But when he’s off he’s atrocious. I fancy him handily. I fancy teeing off on Gaethje… Islam, there’s history there. I’m open for it.”
