UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre has shared his thoughts on the upcoming UFC 330 clash between reigning welterweight champion Islam Makhachev and Ian Garry.
Makhachev became a two-division champion after defeating Jack Della Maddalena to capture the 170-pound title in his last outing. Meanwhile, his opponent Garry has secured successive wins against Carlos Prates and former champion Belal Muhammad.

The 28-year-old is widely considered a protégé of Irish megastar Conor McGregor and has long been pushing for a fight with Makhachev in a highly anticipated Ireland-versus-Dagestan clash.
St-Pierre believes Makhachev would be the clear favorite if he can take Garry to the mat, but he gives the Irishman the edge if he can keep the fight standing. The Canadian stated:
“Ian Garry is a very good striker, but if Islam can take him down, he’ll have the advantage. If Ian keeps it standing, he’ll have the advantage. Islam is more complete. He can do everything, especially in close-range fighting, and that’s what he’ll try to use.”

Garry has showcased impressive takedown defence against renowned offensive wrestlers like Muhamad and Shavkat Rakhmonov in previous bouts. There is no doubt that he will look to apply a similar strategy against Makhachev and actively try to avoid the takedowns.
Jon Jones Backs Islam Makhachev to Beat Ian Garry in High-Stakes Welterweight Clash
UFC icon Jon Jones has heaped praise on Islam Makhachev and picked him to defeat Ian Garry in August. Jones praised Makhachev’s wrestling pedigree and even placed him in the G.O.A.T conversation alongside himself. ‘Bones’ stated:
“I’m going with Islam because he has a wrestling background, and it’s very hard to beat wrestlers. Islam may just be one of the greatest fighters in the world. Right now, it’s me and maybe him. So I encourage him to keep going”
