A heavyweight clash between Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Curtis Blaydes is reportedly in the works for this year’s Noche UFC event on Sept. 19.
According to combat sports reporter Danny Segura, the UFC is working on booking Cortes-Acosta against Blaydes for the card. If finalized, the matchup would add a high-stakes heavyweight bout to one of the promotion’s biggest themed events of the year.

Cortes-Acosta currently holds a 17-3 professional MMA record and has steadily built his name as one of the more active heavyweights on the roster. The Dominican contender is coming off a tough outing against Alexander Volkov at UFC 328. Before that setback, ‘Salsa Boy’ scored one of the biggest wins of his career by stopping Derrick Lewis via second-round TKO at UFC 324.

Waldo Cortes-Acosta Faces Major Wrestling Test Against Curtis Blaydes at Noche UFC
A fight against Curtis Blaydes would represent another major test for Waldo Cortes-Acosta. Known for his boxing-heavy style, durability, and willingness to stay busy on the feet, he will likely look to keep the bout standing and force ‘Razor’ into prolonged striking exchanges.
Blaydes, meanwhile, last competed against Josh Hokit at UFC 327, where he suffered a setback in a wild heavyweight battle. Despite recent inconsistency, the American remains one of the most proven names in the heavyweight division and has long been regarded as one of the best wrestlers at 265 pounds.
Stylistically, the matchup is clear but compelling. Cortes-Acosta will likely want to use volume, movement, and boxing combinations to keep Blaydes uncomfortable. Blaydes, on the other hand, will almost certainly look to close the distance, secure takedowns, and impose his top pressure.
The fight could carry serious implications for both men. A win for Cortes-Acosta would be the biggest victory of his UFC career and could push him closer to the upper tier of the heavyweight rankings. For Blaydes, a victory would help him steady his position and remind the division that he remains a difficult matchup for almost anyone.
While the UFC has not officially announced the bout, Cortes-Acosta vs. Blaydes already looks like one of the most intriguing heavyweight matchups scheduled for the second half of the year.
