Quillan Salkilld believes his first-round submission of Mateusz Gamrot proved he belongs among the UFC lightweight division’s elite.
The Australian delivered the biggest win of his career at UFC Vegas 120, stopping Gamrot with a rear-naked choke after initially hurting the Polish veteran with a left hook.
Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Salkilld explained that the finish was the result of having multiple weapons available rather than relying on one particular area of his game. He said:
“I’m a jack of all trades. I’ve got many weapons in my arsenal and I’m going to use every single one of them to get the job done.”

Quillan Salkilld’s path to victory highlighted the versatility he believes separates him from other lightweights.
After rocking Gamrot with the left hook, the Australian remained composed when the former title challenger threatened with an early leg-lock attempt. Salkilld escaped before eventually taking the fight to the ground himself.
He then took Gamrot’s back and secured the rear-naked choke, forcing the tap in the opening round.
For Salkilld, the submission was an opportunity to demonstrate that his finishing ability extends well beyond his striking. He continued:
“It just so happened that I got to his back, snatched that neck, and got to prove to everyone that I belong in that upper echelon of the division.”
The result was particularly significant because Gamrot is widely regarded as one of the division’s most accomplished wrestlers. Salkilld managed to neutralize that threat before using his own grappling to end the fight.
Salkilld Wants To Prove He Belongs
The Australian believes the victory should establish him as a serious contender rather than simply another rising lightweight.
Salkilld has already made his next objective clear, calling for a top-five opponent after the biggest victory of his UFC career.
He also wants his performance against Gamrot to reinforce the depth of his skill set.
“I can finish the fight not only on the feet with one shot, but on the ground also.”
