PFL women’s flyweight contender Liz Carmouche has taken a shot at Dakota Ditcheva, questioning the Englishwoman’s position at the top of the division and suggesting she has avoided facing elite competition.
Carmouche is set to face Jena Bishop in a rematch for the inaugural PFL Women’s Flyweight Championship at PFL Chicago 2 on October 16. The former Bellator champion earned this title opportunity after winning four straight fights, including last year’s women’s flyweight tournament, where she finished Jena in the finals. But still, ‘The Girl-Rilla’ remains ranked No. 2 in PFL divisional rankings behind Ditcheva, who won the tournament the previous year.
Liz Carmouche Calls Out Dakota Ditcheva Over PFL Rankings and ‘Fighting Cans’
Speaking exclusively to Combat Sports Fan Page ahead of her upcoming title fight, Liz Carmouche expressed her frustration with the rankings, particularly given that Dakota Ditcheva did not participate in the most recent tournament.
The former Bellator champion said:
“Well, you won the tournament, but the person that didn’t participate in the tournament, last year’s winner, is actually ranked number one. Making no sense whatsoever.”
The veteran then questioned the level of competition Ditcheva has faced, claiming that the undefeated contender has been taking fights against opponents she should be expected to beat.
“She’s only fighting people that we have what we call cans,” Carmouche said. “People that don’t have a lot of wins under the belt, people that she should be able to walk through as a guarantee.”
The ex-Marine also addressed the possibility of eventually facing Ditcheva, but suggested that the fight could depend on whether the former two-time PFL tournament winner stays healthy.
When asked about facing Ditcheva next, Liz Carmouche said:
“If she’s healthy.”
She pointed to Ditcheva’s recent injury history and predicted that the 27-year-old could return from surgery before taking another less challenging matchup.
Carmouche hopes the PFL avoids giving Ditcheva another “welcome back fight” and instead books the matchup that makes sense.
For now, Liz is focused on her rematch with Bishop to become the inaugural PFL women’s flyweight champion. A victory could put her on a collision course with Ditcheva in what would be one of the division’s biggest fights.
