Conor McGregor Shares Recovery Update After Successful Knee Surgery

Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor has confirmed that his latest knee surgery was successful as he begins the rehabilitation process following the injury that abruptly ended his long-awaited UFC return.

The former two-division champion shared the update on social media, making it clear that he intends to return next year despite another major physical setback. ‘The Notorious’ stated:

“Surgery done. Knee repaired. The doubters can keep talking. I didn’t run from the pain. I walked straight into it. Now the real work begins. Comeback season starts now.”

Conor McGregor begins recovery after UFC 329 injury

Conor McGregor returned to the Octagon at UFC 329 on July 11, ending a five-year absence from competition. His previous appearance came at UFC 264 in July 2021, when a broken leg brought his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier to an early end.

The comeback against Max Holloway ended in similarly devastating fashion. McGregor suffered a knee injury in the opening seconds after attempting a jumping roundhouse kick and landing awkwardly. The injury left him unable to continue, with referee Mike Beltran stopping the contest after just 69 seconds.

The injury was later identified as a torn ACL, requiring surgery to repair the damaged knee. The setback came before McGregor could properly showcase what he had left after five years away from competition.

McGregor refuses to walk away

Despite the latest setback, McGregor has remained adamant that his career is not over. He previously outlined a plan of surgery, rehabilitation and a return to martial arts training, and his latest message reinforces that intention.

The Irishman now faces another lengthy rehabilitation process before he can seriously consider returning to the Octagon. A torn ACL commonly requires months of recovery, making a quick comeback unrealistic.

McGregor’s UFC future remains uncertain, but his message following surgery is clear: he intends to return.

The surgery is complete. The rehabilitation has now begun.
