“He Was Cheating”: Anthony Hernandez Accuses Gregory Rodrigues After UFC Sacramento Loss

Anthony Hernandez, Gregory Rodrigues

Anthony Hernandez has accused Gregory Rodrigues of using illegal tactics during their five-round war at UFC Sacramento, claiming the Brazilian repeatedly grabbed the inside of his gloves.

Hernandez suffered a unanimous decision defeat in the main event at Golden 1 Center, with Rodrigues earning the victory by scores of 49-46, 48-47, and 48-47.

Following the fight, ‘Fluffy’ expressed his frustration with referee Herb Dean for failing to penalize Rodrigues after allegedly catching his gloves multiple times. He stated:

“I told Herb, ‘This grabbed my glove like four times.’ And I was like, ‘Hey, he’s grabbing my gloves.’ And he told him, ‘Hey, stop.’ But I mean, whatever, don’t take a point. Whatever. I guess people like to cheat, so it is what it is.”

Hernandez’s comments suggest he believed Rodrigues’ actions warranted a point deduction. Heavy reported that Hernandez said he had alerted Dean during the fight, with the referee warning Rodrigues to stop but ultimately choosing not to deduct a point.

Gregory Rodrigues Overcomes Anthony Hernandez in Five-Round War

The controversy came after Gregory Rodrigues produced one of the strongest performances of his UFC career.

‘Robocop’ repeatedly attacked Anthony Hernandez’s lead leg with vicious calf kicks, dropping him multiple times and severely compromising his movement. Rodrigues also defended Hernandez’s persistent takedown attempts and landed the cleaner, heavier strikes throughout much of the contest.

Hernandez mounted a strong response in the third round, but Rodrigues regained control in the championship rounds and finished the fight strongly to secure his fourth consecutive victory.

The defeat marked Hernandez’s second straight loss after an eight-fight winning streak, while Rodrigues strengthened his position in the middleweight division with the biggest victory of his UFC career.

Despite the result, Hernandez clearly believes the fight contained moments that should have been handled differently by the referee. His accusations now add another layer of controversy to an already brutal UFC Sacramento main event.
