Former two-weight UFC champion Alex Pereira has stated that he is “afraid to go back to fighting” due to referees’ failure to stop illegal shots to the back of the head.
Pereira was defeated by Ciryl Gane in the UFC Freedom 250 co-headliner at the White House. During the bout, Gane landed a perfect jab in the second round, dropping the Brazilian to the canvas. However, the Frenchman then followed up with a series of illegal blows to the back of Pereira’s head, which went unchecked. Shortly after, Gane finished the fight as he continued landing devastating shots on a dazed ‘Poatan.’
In the aftermath of the bout, Pereira released a statement slamming ‘Bon Gaman’ for cheating and referee Herb Dean for failing to intervene when needed. Now, in another bold statement released on social media, Pereira has admitted his fears of returning to the octagon. He stated:
“Honestly, I’m afraid to go back to fighting with all this going on. I think I’ve already done my part.”

Dana White Admits Alex Pereira Was Hit With Illegal Blows in Ciryl Gane Loss
Alex Pereira has made it clear that he is unhappy with how the bout played out. The 38-year-old took a massive risk by vacating his light heavyweight throne in pursuit of history, moving up to heavyweight with the ambition of becoming the first three-division champion in UFC history.
UFC CEO Dana White weighed in on the situation and stated that he agreed with ‘Poatan’s’ assessment that he was hit with illegal strikes. White said:
“It’s undeniable that Alex got hit with some strikes to the back of the head. Alex Pereira is not a whiner, and Alex Pereira doesn’t complain about things or make excuses after fights, so I have to believe that he believed that.”
