The legendary Jose Aldo wants to see a rematch between Petr Yan and Sean O’Malley.
“Suga” recently knocked out the surging Aiemann Zahabi at UFC Freedom 250 and now wants to run it back with current and two-time UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan.
However, Yan, who had back surgery earlier this year, is expected to meet Merab Dvalishvili again. The UFC has promised “The Machine” an immediate title rematch after his UFC 323 title loss.
The Georgian, who defended his title three times in 2025 before losing it during his fourth title defense later that year, deserves an immediate rematch and is waiting for the opportunity he says was promised by Hunter Campbell and the rest of the UFC brass.
Jose Aldo would “rather watch a rematch between Petr Yan and Sean O’Malley” than “No Mercy” vs. “The Machine” 3
During a recent interview with Covers.com, Jose Aldo said that if the potential Merab Dvalishvili vs. Petr Yan 3 rematch does not happen, O’Malley should get the next title shot.
“It all depends on what the UFC decides to do with Merab. He was a dominant champion and maybe he deserves an immediate rematch. But if that rematch doesn’t happen, I see Sean O’Malley as the leading candidate. After his most recent performance, he strengthened his case considerably. I still have doubts about some decisions that went against other fighters in the division, but O’Malley remains a major name and an extremely marketable one.”
“Junior” added that he believes “No Mercy” won the 2022 bout against O’Malley, despite the judges’ scorecards telling a different story, which is why he wants to see the rematch happen.
“In fact, I’ve always believed Petr Yan won their first fight. But the judges gave it to O’Malley. As a fan, I’d much rather watch a rematch between Petr Yan and Sean O’Malley than see another fight between Merab and Yan.”
