Alex Pereira Accepts Ciryl Gane As Champion, but Believes Illegal Strikes Robbed Him of a Finish

Alex Pereira, Ciryl Gane

Alex Pereira is not going to war with the result. Speaking to Ariel Helwani following his loss to Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250, “Poatan” made his position on an appeal straightforward, choosing to accept the outcome rather than drag it through a commission process that rarely changes anything anyway.

“No, it doesn’t make sense to appeal. He’s the champion, let him be the champ,” Pereira said.

That is a composed response from a man who genuinely believes he was seconds away from a finish when the fight was stopped. Pereira is not someone who sits in public bitterness, and this confirms it. He is moving on. What he is not doing is pretending the ending was clean.

Alex Pereira Believed Gane Had Nothing Left

Alex Pereira does not just think he was winning the fight. He believes Gane was running on empty and that what looked like a champion celebrating on the canvas was actually a fighter who had nothing left to give.

“If I had the chance to survive without the illegal strikes, I feel that Ciryl would not have survived in the fight because he doesn’t have heart. You could see it in his eyes, and I got robbed of that moment. It looks like he was lying down because he was celebrating. No, he was that tired,” Pereira said.

That is a pointed accusation, and Pereira is not sugarcoating it. Gane’s cardio has been a conversation in MMA circles for years, and “Poatan” is essentially saying the evidence was sitting right there on the canvas in real time.

Whether you believe it or not, Herb Dean’s decision not to intervene on the illegal strikes has already drawn serious criticism, and the Brazilian is leaning into that narrative without apology.

Heavyweight Is Home Now for Alex Pereira

Alex Pereira is not just moving on from this loss. He is committing to a division. He plans to stay at heavyweight for the remainder of his career, which tells you everything about where his confidence sits right now at 265 pounds despite the setback against Ciryl Gane.

“Things happen to me and I always come back stronger,” he said.

That statement lands differently when paired with a permanent weight class decision. Pereira is not retreating to light heavyweight, where he already cleaned house. He is planting his flag at heavyweight, betting on himself to eventually get the title.

He has done this before at multiple weight classes, and there is no reason to believe this time is any different.
