Prichard Colon Dies Aged 33: Puerto Rican Boxer Who Suffered Devastating Brain Haemorrhage in 2015 Has Passed Away

Prichard Colon

Prichard Colon has died. He was 33 years old. His father confirmed the passing on social media on August 13, 2026, bringing a decade of hope, heartbreak, and family devotion to its most painful conclusion.

Who Prichard Colon Was

Born on September 19, 1992, in Puerto Rico, Colon was a genuinely gifted professional boxer who appeared destined for world championship level. He won a gold medal at the 2010 Pan American Youth Championship at 64 kilograms and built an undefeated professional record before the night that changed everything.

The WBC later honoured him with an honorary world championship in recognition of what he represented to the sport.

What Happened in 2015 to Prichard Colon

In October 2015, Colon fought Terrel Williams in what proved to be the final contest of his career. During the fight, he was repeatedly struck with rabbit punches, blows to the back of the head that are illegal under boxing rules. Colon collapsed in his dressing room after the bout and was rushed to hospital, where he remained in a coma for 221 days due to a brain haemorrhage.

The incident drew widespread outrage about officiating standards and fighter safety across the sport.

When Colon eventually emerged from the coma, the damage to his brain was permanent and severe. He entered a persistent vegetative state and lost the ability to speak. He was eventually discharged from the hospital and received physiotherapy, using a computer as a communication tool in his later years. Through all of it, his family remained by his side and cared for him until his passing.

Prichard Colon deserved better from the sport he dedicated his life to. His story should never be forgotten.
