Ian Machado Garry Reveals Why His Wife Called Him a “Pussy”

Ian Machado Garry

Ian Machado Garry has shared a hilarious story involving former UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev, revealing that his wife wasn’t impressed with how he handled an unexpected encounter with ‘Borz.’

During an interview, Garry recalled the time he and his wife ran into Chimaev and Chimaev’s wife inside an elevator. Garry initially thought things were about to get heated. However, with both fighters’ wives standing in the elevator, and his teammate having a fight with Chimaev coming up, Garry felt it wasn’t the right place for any confrontation. Garry said:

“There are two women in the elevator. If me and Khamzat are going to fight, we’re fighting to the death. I’m not starting something in front of our wives.”

While Garry believed it was the respectful thing to do, his wife didn’t see it that way.

“My wife called me a pussy.”

Ian Machado Garry admitted with a laugh, saying she thought he should have stepped in and backed his teammate.

The Irish welterweight stressed that he has no issue fighting Chimaev if the opportunity ever presents itself, but an elevator with family members present wasn’t the place to settle anything.

Ian Machado Garry and Khamzat Chimaev got into backstage altercation after UFC Qatar

Moments after defeating Belal Muhammad at UFC Qatar, Ian Machado Garry approached Arman Tsarukyan to congratulate him on his main event victory over Dan Hooker. Tsarukyan’s close buddy Khamzat Chimaev was also present, and the two briefly exchanged words before Garry turned to leave for his post-fight press conference.

As Garry walked away, a UFC security official stepped in between the pair. Responding to the intervention, he said:

“He’s not going to fight me. He’s good.”

Seconds later, Chimaev reached over and shoved the Irishman, prompting security to immediately separate the two.

“That’s just childish,” Garry shouted back. “You’re meant to be a champion of this sport. Your friend just won, don’t ruin his victory. Arman, congratulations.”

The altercation ended there, with security preventing the situation from escalating further. No punches were thrown, and both fighters eventually went their separate ways.
