Tom Aspinall Meets Roger Federer at Wimbledon as September Ciryl Gane Rematch Moves Closer

Tom Aspinall, Roger Federer

Tom Aspinall is not just preparing to prove to the masses why he is the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion inside the octagon. The Brit shared on Instagram that he crossed paths with Roger Federer at Wimbledon this week, a meeting that raised eyebrows given Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom operation has historically had connections across multiple sports and talent circles.

Whether Federer and Matchroom share any formal relationship remains unconfirmed, but Aspinall’s growing association with Hearn makes the Wimbledon appearance an interesting footnote heading into a massive summer.

The Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane Rematch Is Perhaps Coming in September

The real business is the UFC heavyweight unification fight. Ciryl Gane holds the interim title after stopping Alex Pereira at UFC Freedom 250, and Tom Aspinall has already confirmed he is twelve weeks into a training camp with negotiations actively ongoing with the UFC.

The target is September, with Paris the preferred location given it would give Gane a home crowd advantage, a detail Aspinall has accepted without hesitation because he wants the fight done.

Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Aspinall’s father Andy has been in direct contact with the UFC, pushing for a confirmed date. With Aspinall already deep into camp and both sides in talks, the September timeline looks increasingly real.

The motivation behind Aspinall’s urgency goes beyond the belt. At UFC 321, Gane eye-poked him in both eyes during their first encounter, forcing a no contest. The diagnosis that followed was traumatic bilateral Brown’s syndrome, causing double vision that required surgery on both eyes at Optegra Eye Hospital in February after 108 days and 18 specialist appointments. Aspinall has since stated he believes the fouls were deliberate. September cannot come soon enough.
